I lowkey hate blue control and this MY cube
Fewer free spells because people that play blue cards should be punished
2x dual 2x shock 2x surveil
Also removing the titans but keeping them in the box because I’m not convinced yet that I want to ditch them. Alex, if you’re reading this, I will return your Grave Titan if you’d like to have it.
Long awaited death's shadow add
Pulling out some permanent sideboard cards and making the burn/aristocrats/and my two tribals more viable + flexible. Also adding in sigarda's aid because I was told to cut colossus hammer and refuse. I don't care if I get bonked for 12 or something on turn 2 the next time I play this cube it's the best type of combo (non-deterministic)
I may undue some of these changes... and I may bump to 384 for 3x16 packs but not doing that til I revisit lands. I'd like to move to 2 duals, 2 shocks, 2 surveils eventually
They sent me the wrong copy of thalia smh. IF everyone shows up - tonight will be the first full pod firing of this cube
Exciting times here foolside
Trying to even out the balance of gold cards and make sure they are properly signposty.
I recently dialed in much closer to what I want this cube to be and this update is a major reflection of that. Part of being a cube for fools is it's proximity to being a cube for lazy fools (like me) and so the effort of reducing total word count should, by extension, be an effort to reduce the number of unique tokens. I may undue some of these changes but I want this to be as down the middle as possible. If my original sift through isn't taken there should only be 1/1 white soldier tokens and 2/2 black zombie tokens in this cube following the update. I will need to double check that in the analysis tab though.
Can never seem to remember everything I want to update together but swapping these too because Heartfire has too many words and valiant isn’t beginner friendly because the ability to recur equipment costs isn’t intuitive and rat out is just a super fun instant speed trick/token maker/removal for one mana
This update is a result of finding my childhood collection of cards. Tried to continue the trend of reducing complexity while adding some pet cards from my childhood along with some of the more iconic cards I collected in my youth. Many more I wanted to include that just didnt fit the bill for this environment so will be looking for a home for those elsewhere.
Some favorites here are my 10th ed BOP
Also made some swaps with cards already in the cube including a beautiful Foil Judgement Brawn that is somehow near mint after 15+ unsleeved years in my parent’s damp basement
Excited to use some these cards I grew up with. I love cube for giving me a place for them
Further reducing complexity while continuing to add classic cards I love. As a result, undoing a good bunch of my initial bloomburrow updates. Playing this cube for the first time with my home playgroup of brand new magic players helped me get a better understanding of what’s actually complex vs wordy:
oliphaunt is an example. Newer players don’t immediately see how powerful the 1 mana land cycling effect is. I am also sick of most of the LOTR cards
Also with this update, adding in more of the beloved phyrexian mana cards and a few classic artifacts. I might end of having a small myr package in this cube love those little guys
One I’m curious about in this addition is Jeskai ascendency. I loved reaching for a third color to get siege rhino out. I think adding JA and Rafiq of the many will by a fund “live the dream” opportunity for drafters to run toward
Part of a broader update to lower barrier to entry. More simple classic cards and by the end of it hoping for more total available interaction
This is a comically large bloombizzle update but I’m waiting for an order to come in that was finally going to take me up to 360 for this cube and my impatience got the best of me.
The first 4+ player draft of this cube took place last week and there were some good learnings. In general - there’s a few cards in this cube that are “strictly worse” versions of other cards that I have no reason not to swap for other than “this cube started as a box of bulk” hoping to make some more of those updates soon.
BLB pre-release was great - I am nervous about adding so many non-evergreen mechanics here when the cube is really for fools like me but everything felt seamless my first time with the set so I am going for it and if I need to backtrack I will.
is too cute not to include so I’m making an exception of my tendency to avoid “one ofs” with offspring. Also - I loved innkeeper’s talent - classes are cool. I plan to add in a full cycle of them because I love a mana sink
Also of concern here is whether glarb is too powerful - he is glarb so he gets a shot no matter what but I’ll be keeping a close eye it. I think any 2/3 of his abilities would be great but all of them for only 3 mana is very strong in this environment.
I’m fully replacing heroic with valiant. Though I love fabled hero and Phalanx leader I hate that equip abilities do not trigger heroic. Valiant may take my players some getting used to but I think it’s worth the effort because blacksmith’s talent, heartfire hero, and whiskerquill are all fun to play with and fit right into the boros equipment theme that I want to have viable here
Ok last changes til bloomburrow. I got a set of VERY pretty proxied duallands that all have full art illustrations of National Parks around the country. They are too pretty not to include and without fetches in this environment I don’t think they are remotely too busted to have 1 of each floating around.
Otherwise, few more common and uncommons, plus a beautiful full art lotus blossom that I packed a while back and like looking at - if it’s too much for this cube down the road I will cut it but I don’t want to overthink it
Road to 360 has room for more cards at all rarities. Added some rares and mythics recently and wanted to balance that out with some more commons. Only questionable add here is oblivion stone - We’ll see how it plays. It has a lot of words (not ideal) but isn’t complex either (ideal) - feels like a slow wrath which I don’t hate the sound of in this environment.
All the other adds are cards I just love the look of and are about as straight forward as they come. Also, ferocity has a minotaur on it and fits better in this cube than The Music Ends. Talk about a pet card
continuing the road to 360 by increasing the total fixing with a proxy order to get a full cycle of the surveil lands swapped in and another round of shocklands
also snuck in there some pretty proxies of other cards that I've wanted to include for a while. I like having a reanimator deck possible when the reanimator targets are less Atraxa and more Godzilla.
I think the next round of additions needs to take a closer look at my artifact section
