Transcendent Dragon I hope will give opportunity for new interactions that haven't been possible before due to color identity issues. If ever there were a time to put a dragon in a Doctor Who cube, now makes perfect sense given both the MTG dragon themed set and the show's recent influx of gods and more fantasy elements. I wouldn't be surprised to see Ncuti Gatwa riding a dragon this season.
Lier is being cut to try this dragon out, in part due to how Lier can backfire. This switch may be temporary.
Doctor Who fans are eating good with this set! Taigam, Master Opportunist is a huge boost to many archetypes. Ojer Pakpatiq, Deepest Epoch was added previously to give paradox decks a boost and suspend decks a tool they might occasionally use and Taigam will help both more effectively. You might not want to trigger Taigam on a legendary spell.
Transforming Flourish has similarities to Chaos Warp with a couple notable differences, that you can't give an opponent a land and it gets rid of your target for good. It does have additional upside for The Twelfth Doctor too. I expect it will play particularly well with Kingdoms roles.
We've learned the titles of the new season of the show, which means I'll be looking for existing cards to reference them that also would be a good fit for the cube!
Aetherdrift Update
Paradox strategies could use a bit of a boost and this set delivers with a red Phyrexian Arena in Count on Luck!
Disrupt Decorum was previously added in an effort to help speed up games. It hasn't quite done this to the degree I hoped.
Once and Future is another card that has underperformed, and honestly the only reason it has lasted this long is because it has a very thematic name.
By adding Gaea's Will there'll be an extra thematic value piece for 13th Doc as well as 12th Doc or suspend-matters decks using a green companion.
Keep an eye out for this since you can churn through your deck quick if you're drafting a deck with snazzy combos!
Foundations Update
Arcanis has been hit or miss on effectiveness. Needing to wait a turn cycle before drawing 3 sometimes is a problem. I liked that The Fifth Doctor untaps Arcanis though. Open to suggestions on other good creatures 5 can untap.
Curator does a couple neat things; first it has impact right away. In Kingdoms this could easily be draw 5 cards. This is another "piles matter" card for The Celestial Toymaker. Another cool thing is it has "Curator" in the name, like Tom Baker's character from the 50th Anniversary!
Magic Fest Vegas update! These cards are available to get signed by their artists October 25-27. Other WHO cards available include: The basics by Svetlin Velinov, the tardis frame 11th doctor, planechase card Besieged Viking Village, non-tardis frame 1st doc, wound reflection and Mark Tedin's The Dalek Emperor (he was at SCG RC in DC too)
The Duskmorn set update! Bonus: 3 more signed cards by artists at SCG's RC in DC.
The overlords using time counters is relevant for commanders like 10, 11 and Kate. Just adding the white one for now, over Sun Titan which has underperformed. Reiterate is being replaced with the more flexible (and more flavorful) untimely malfunction. Suspended Sentence adds even more time counter synergy, could lead to more people willing to try a Grixis Doctor build with 10+black companion (Time Lord Victorious arc?) or 9+black companion, or Esper with 11.
Just a quick fun update - added tags for 20 actor and artist signed cards! All have 2 extra tags; one tag "signed" and the other "signed by (actor or artist)"
Also added notes on Sontaran General. Did you know actor Jonathan Watson played 3 different Sontaran Generals (Commanders)? Maybe that's an extra reason the card has Battalion!
Excalibur has history in the show, particularly with the second and seventh Doctors. Synergy with historic themes and improves the threat of killing players through 21 commander damage.
Progenitor's Icon was supposed to help add interaction but tended to be too low-impact and too few payoffs.
