Haven't touched his cube in a while, but I wanted to put in cards I've acquired since. I dunno, maybe the additions made it objectively worse, definitely could've done more planning to exactly what fits in best and serves a role, but I just wanted to give the cards a home.
Caverns of Ixalan had some great artifact support, so this one is mostly from there. I decided I didn't want to go over 400 cards yet, so I made a couple cuts. I might be thinning Modular going forward since there's so little as is, having a specific synergy card that can cause confusion because of how it works doesn't really feel worth while.
Oops, didn't mean to add an extra copy.
I am running out of physical space in this bundle box to fit the cube into. lol
After the reveal of Gandalf I decided I'd open my mind to putting in cards from the set, he was SUCH a ridiculously good fit.
Cavern-Hoard Dragon, while a pricy addition, also feel like a great fit, punishing affinity just kinda feels right for red.
I'm sorry to give up Kayla's Music Box (for now), but it felt like the least synergistic and most punishable of the white card advantage in the cube. Might bring it back when I inevitably fall to the temptation to expand again.
Sword of Hours has been a card I've thought a lot about, its inclusion always meant needing to have a D12 on hand. I like the effect, but I know not everyone loves dice rolling to begin with and the awkward choice of dice has been nagging at me. Sorry +1/+1 counters caring cards, but I'm shelfing it.
I feel like with all the graveyard synergy potential it's healthy to have some hate too, so the kinda not filling much of a clear role Thaumatic Compass can step aside. lol Though the compass did remind me of Treasure Map, which could theoretically add something worth while to the cube, but I feel like treasures aren't ubiquitous enough at this time, there are a few cards that can produce a lot, but if you don't happen to get (or get to actually PLAY) any of 'em is the map worth while? I'll have to ponder that...
Merry, Esquire of Rohan is on my "Maybe" list for this one, the Boros equipment space is just very competitive, so he might not make the cut any time soon. The equipment archetype got a good bit of support here anyway.
I'm a little hesitant about adding the color-break that is Ravenform, but I feel like a few more answers might be what the cube needs. I know I'm adding to the 3 mana clot, it's something I may need to address eventually, but they just put SO much good stuff at that price. Also added in my recent acquisitions from Aftermath though they're still on the way in the mail. These feel like very interesting additions. Reckless Handling acting as just a tutor into the grave might be just what certain red decks want.
I've a mind to get my hands on Obliterating Bolt too to give red more options for dealing with non-artifact problems. Looking over things, 4 damage is a pretty sweet spot for dealing with a lot of things so long as they are unmodified.
For now, just putting this one in without removing anything. The box I'm keeping my cube in is running out of room, but I still wanna expand with more cool cards. I'm probably just being greedy here, but cest la vie.
Switching out Dalakos for now to not mix up that Boros = equipment identity, but it's not far from the top of the returner list.
Also retiring Aethershield Artificer with great reluctance, I can only have so many white 4 drop creatures, so the maybe least interesting one has to make room for now.
After some pondering I felt like Karn is the more thematically fitting choice, but Ugin isn't far from my mind.
Went ahead and ordered the rest of the cards I wanted from the set and so here it is. Still have some under consideration, but this is a bunch.
Couldn't resist some early ONE purchases. lol
These were some hard picks for what to replace, the Igniter hasn't really gotten to show its stuff in our games, but it has the potential to be SUCH a big threat, so I'm reluctant to take it out, but I just feel like of the dragons it maybe does the least interesting stuff. Definitely on the short list for if I expand the cube again.
Decided to lean a little bit into a looting/rummaging thing, we'll see if it does anything.
