Drafting the cube tonight, and with CLB there's likely to be a large set of updates.
Likely replacements are the thriving lands with the thriving gates, addition of background partners, and replacement of some off theme commanders.
Simic and Izzet are likely to have the most replacements but we'll see what happens.
Post Draft Replacements.
The dimir signposts are being changed from the historic/artifact signposts to better support the mill/aristocrats themes.
Make a Wish is a bit of a hassle to resolve and green needs more removal effects
Stitch in Time while a neat spell just doesn't really fit in well into the cube themes
Trigon of Corruption feels too weak and would be better served being a wrath of some sort
Welder Automaton doesn't fit well enough into izzet equipment or boros artifacts. It's too dependent on other cards to be useful and doesn't quite do enough for multiplayer matches without infect.
Sai, Master Thopterist indicates artifacts were too much of a theme in blue than they were so he's being swapped with Inga Rune-Eyes to support blue black aristocrats
We did our first draft of the cube in person. It ended up being 6 people doing two games with pods of 3, and one game between the winners of each pod. The winning commander was Parhelion II with the Natural Identity regalia, and Bond of Ancestry for Soldiers and Knights. The other commanders were as follows
General Ferrous Rokiric with Inquisitive Identity - Multicolor Matters
Damia, Sage of Stone with Maze Runner - Infect Aggro/Gates
Araumi of the Dead Tide - Reanimator
Dark Depths with Prismatic Identity - Pillow Fort/Depths/Epic Struggle
Skullbriar with A Small Inheritence - Counters Combo
in general the mood was positive and people would draft again, but there were a couple clarity questions, and an ask for more interaction in the form of counter spells, kill spells in all colors, and board wipes.
Mono Blue commanders seem to guide to hard towards powerful artifacts as an archetype, and dimir signposts also point harder at artifacts than I wanted. A small number of swaps should fix these issues.
Personally my games were well served by having booster tutor in the deck in my first game parhelion beat down hard on my deck and despite having interaction the angels were too much of an issue for me. In game two infect aggro ran well getting those counters on and booster tutor found me a proliferation card to win me the game.
