Taking for EDH

Notes:

  • Taking for EDH
  • Nurturing Bristleback: seems like a better reanimation target
Mainboard Changelist+1, -1

Notes:

  • Freeze in Place: needs testing, but might be okay just for fitting well in tempo oriented ecks

Notes:

  • Knights of Dol Amroth, Thunder Drake: maybe okay just as a conditional counter producer
  • Gitaxian Raptor: its counters are probably comparable to stun counters, which is a very minor (probably not enough to be considered much when drafting) proliferate reward
  • Fae Flight: permanent flying and power buff probably makes this more of a consideration for tempo decks

Notes:

  • Sensei's Divining Top: maybe okay, but generically good and adds a lot of tedium to games
  • Flowstone Thopter: maybe okay as a weaker but considerable pick as a finisher, but 7 is pretty expensive
  • Luxurious Locomotive: to be tested, might be a little generically good
  • Oaken Siren: probably okay to add back in

Notes:

  • Mirri the Cursed: feels too generically good
  • Gluttonous Guest: probably on the weaker side in the themes that I would want it to push (orzhov life drain strategy, vampire)
  • Weigh Down: interesting enough to add back in
  • Chainer, Dementia Master: maybe more generically good than pushing any actual themes. Its tribal effect is barely a consideration when drafting

Notes:

  • Sort of abandoning vampire theme and not pushing giant theme as hard (higher bar of cross-theme synergy or excitement for giants to be included). A little sparse on both rewards and bodies. Threshold 1 (often counting itself) feels like a relevant metric.
  • Etali's Favor: more tempo-oriented?
  • Ancestors' Aid: card draw (clue) is better reward than mana (treasure), just like how mana discount is not that valuable of a reward. Recurring treasure creation might be more valuable though.
  • Stinkdrinker Daredevil: mana discount is not as appealing of a reward (no extra value, only tempo). Also does not count itself for threshold 1 metric

Notes:

  • Contagious Vorrac: maybe okay, but maybe just a little above rate without really needing much to make it work well nor being all that interesting
  • Lattice-Blade Mantis: maybe okay but not super interested in green vigilance. The tension in choosing to attack is nice.
  • Walker of the Grove: maybe okay but feels like landcycling creatures fill this role better (reanimation target)
  • Tyvar's Stand: maybe okay but not super interesting. Also with green having graveyard themes, protection is maybe less synergistic
  • Consume Strength: fine, exciting even, but not thematic
  • Sharae of Numbing Depths: not really that thematic or exciting

Notes:

  • Stonybrook Schoolmaster: an interesting card but hard to utilize and a little weak. maybe okay but I probably won't miss it.
  • Enduring Bondwarden: maybe okay but a little weak since it has basically no body

Notes:

  • Joraga Auxiliary: okay but mana sink feels prohibitively expensive and the body is not interesting otherwise
  • Mirari's Wake: uninterestingly strong
  • Selvala, Explorer Returned: sort of not thematic and a bit generically strong, but also not in an especially interesting way. Can lead to some interesting mana acceleration, but it's been a little overplayed and I'm not excited by it anymore. Extreme mana acceleration is not especially interesting in GW which is already a relatively strong and safe color pair.
  • Conclave Cavalier: might be excessively hard to cast and not super thematic, but getting it onto the board feels exciting. The vigilance in theory makes it feel like a huge pressuring obstacle.
  • Magister of Worth: a bit awkward and not thematic in this cube
  • Motify, Putrefy: okay but generic
  • Winged Coatl: at its most exciting, basically a combat kill spell with extra steps, which is not super exciting. Not super thematic either
  • Frilled Mystic: feels more inherently exciting, but also has more tension in playing correctly (unlike Winged Coatl which can always be played for efficiency even if no opportunity arises to take advantage of it)
  • Kiora, Behemoth Beckoner: Actually not very thematic nor reasonably strong and cheap hybrid makes it not function as well as a multi-color card. The latter is not a deal breaker, especially for stronger color pairs like UG, but it is not interesting enough
  • Serum-Core Chimera: might be okay but essentially threshold 3, which might be prohibitively large
  • Saheeli, Sublime Artificer: Feels very hard to get to work at a comparable strength. Might essentially be threshold 2 or more, and is more vulnerable than a creature.
  • Third Path Iconoclast: might be okay but a bit split on its themes and a 1/1 might not be super impressive for spell tempo theme. Helps that its body is reasonable and cheap though.

Notes:

  • Bloodthrone Vampire: untested but might be okay for aggressive decks
  • Baleful Eidolon: might be okay
  • Stallion of Ashmouth: might be okay, looks unexciting but not as bad as it looks which makes it a decent skill tester card
  • Shriekmaw: a very nice card, but also a little generically good
  • Trespasser il-Vec: might be okay, skill tester tempo card
  • Rotting Rats: might be okay. a bit of a skill tester card
  • Reign of the Pit: this cube doesn't really need this

Notes:

  • Urabrask's Forge: generically good
  • Lunar Frenzy: feels like a bit of a bend, feels out of place
