The idea with this is that the players get a choice of several commanders. Each comes with a Commander's Sphere and Command Tower, and 3 other cards that automatically start in their deck.

The design choices for the mini-packs are either:

• Synergy with existing archetypes in the cube (e.g. Teysa Karlov and aristocrats)
• Build-around the Commander (e.g. Savra, Queen of the Golgari's engine enabling altars)
• A theme that's reinforced by the Commander (e.g. Riku of Two Reflections being a clone deck)

The idea is to bring back the magic of building your first commander decks. Looking through good cards that are designed for 1v1 and repurposing them to fit EDH's multiplayer nature.
