The game loops between drafting cards and using those cards to play a magic mini-game. Players start with 20 Hit-Points and after each minigame, the loser Loses Hit-Points equal to how much life their opponent had. Then all players draft again. This loop continues until only one player remains as the winner. >>># Setup<<< Each round consists of a DRAFT, BUILD, and PLAY phase. Players start with a 6 card pool and after each round of play they add an additional card to their pool. After drafting, players build a starting hand from their pool of cards equal to half their pool rounded down. When playing Players start with life equal to their pool size and >>># DRAFT<<< At the start of each draft phase, do the following: deal a "pack" of 6 cards to each player. A player may choose to swap any cards from their pool with any card in the pack. If they choose not to they may take mulligan and get a pack with one less card. >>># BUILD<<< When the draft is complete, players build their starting hands. Each of the following happens in order: Each player selects their starting hand (number of cards = Half their pool rounded down) from their card pool. Shuffle the rest and it becomes their library. Each player then adds 3 basic lands of their choice to their hand. Players are paired randomly for the mini-game. >>># PLAY<<< Magic Mini-Games are played just like a normal Bo1 game of magic, but with the following rule modifications: Starting life = Pool size Starting hand size is equal to half the Pool Size rounded down. Players have no maximum hand size. Players skip their draw step. The player with the lowest Hit-Points chooses to play or draw. If it is a tie OR there are only two players left, determine randomly. #### Overtime During your match, if each player goes 2 turn cycles without taking any action, you gain a global emblem with "Each creature attacks if able." If you already have the emblem and you go 2 turn cycles without taking an action, the match is a draw and both players loose. The loser of the mini-game looses Hit-Points equal half their pool rounded down at the end of the mini-game. A draw counts as a loss for both players. When a player goes to 0 hit points they become a Ghost and still play, but no longer draft. The last player to stay alive wins! Armor plating Your next pack starts with 8 cards to choose from. You get 2 free mulligans. You can swap 1 card this round with each pack and still mulligan. You may discard X cards from your pool and create a separate pack with double that many cards. Add X cards from that pack back to your pool. Then start your normal draft pack. #### Sundries Pairing Players Randomly It's critical that you never know exactly who you're playing against, but it's also unfun to play against the same person a few times in a row. Because of this, the following is how I recommend pairing, since it can be implemented in paper with a single D20 die roll: Any player can roll the D20. It doesn't matter which player. Before they roll, they assign the two players they didn't just play Even and Odds, respectively. If they roll a 1 or 20, they play their most recent opponent. This yields 10% to replay your last opponent and 45% to replay each other player. It also doesn't have any randomness issues with using a spin down! Lastly, if it's the first mini-game, just play the person sitting across from you.
