I forgot to save the changelist for this but it's basically a shift in the white Legion deck from a combat/exhalted deck to a Humans weenie deck. Adeline, Resplendent Cathar replaced Odric, Lunarch Marshal and a lot of Human tribal cards replaced some frankly lackluster fighters. Porcelain Legionnaire out, Thalia's Lieutenant in. Glory-Bound Initiate out, Gather the Townsfolk in. Adanto Vanguard out Coppercoat Vanguard in. It can be difficult to make cards like Champion of the Parish work in a mashup but having a Human maker in the command zone and the fact that Humans are very common in other mini-decks makes it much more reliable.
Here is my attempt at a basic enchantments mini-deck. Ideally, I would want an enchantress effect in the command zone but there aren't any mono-green options available at this time. Nylea provides gas in a slightly different way and it's cool to have an actual enchantment in the command zone of the enchantments decks. She should work nicely. The rest of the deck is a collection of good-stuff enchantments (Lignify, Bear Umbra, Destiny Spinner) and some opportunities to go big with a buffed up creature (Thrun, the Last Troll, Ancestral Mask).
A few cards from Counter Control were needed for Blood, Sweat and Tears. Adding in a couple cards that should get more -1/-1 counters on the board as well as a Nether Traitor to give Yawgmoth more creatures to sacrifice.
The theme in a nutshell is "life as a resource" and K'rrik is the obvious leader of the deck. There are lot's of cards that operate at a discount if you are willing to pay a little life (Dismember, Night's Whisper), while most of the creatures have lifelink to help offset those costs (Gifted Aetherborn, Vampire Nighthawk). Cards like Font of Agonies, Spawn of Mayhem, and Profane Transfusion give you opportunities to play mini-games with your life total and will reward clever players.
It's another deck that feels really flavorful but I'm unsure how everything will come together during a game. There's a delicate balance between including a bunch of cards that require life payments but also giving the player extra life with which to use them. I'm sure I'll be tweaking that balance in the future.
A few small tweaks and additions. Trying out Breya's Apprentice in Scrap Heap. This format really needs cards that fill multiple roles for a given theme. Apprentice is two artifacts, a sac outlet and card draw all in one. Subbing it in for one of the bombs should give a more consistent game plan. And speaking of Combustible Gearhulk, that went over to Chaos, which was in need of a couple more good stuff cards.
Scion of Draco looks so crazy cool for the Rainbow deck. Happy to have a payoff for playing all five colors rather than just a bunch of efficient multicolored spells. I also like that it will buff creatures in partner decks. Cross-deck synergies are very valuable.
I was struggling to find a fourth red archetype that wasn't tribal. I landed on chaos, which I feel has very strong red flavor but not a ton of strong card support. Honestly, I think it's one of the weekest mini-decks in the cube. But it could make up for it with wild antics.
Zurzoth is leading the way, making devils and causing mischief. The devils can either disrupt player's hands or serve as fodder for various morphing effects (Glimpse of Tomorrow, Chaos Warp, Lukka, etc.). Sprinkle in some cascade, wheels and a good old-fashioned haymaker and this deck should be flipping lots of tables.
I'm going to try Titania as the commander. The lands synergies were a little dry with Multani and I'm hoping Titania will spice it up a little bit. She's cool with cards like Elvish Reclaimer, Crop Rotation, Fabled Passage, and even just animated lands dying in combat. I'm still looking for a couple more good utility lands to really flesh out the deck.
Adding some new toys from MH2. Yes, Zabaz technically breaks color identity rules but it feels very on flavor for the deck. The deck doesn't have a ton of ways to get red or white mana but Zabaz's static ability is good enough on it's own. I might even test it as the commander.
Oath of Teferi and Damping Sphere are do nothing cards in draft. Teferi, Hero of Dominaria was cut for power reasons. Mox Amber is fine but I don't own one and it has a very high cost-to-impact ratio. It doesn't feel worth the price to add. Jodah, Archmage Eternal is fine just as a reasonably costed flier but the ability seems irrelevant. It felt weird to include.
