This cube is the product of three years of passion and study to create a fun, fast-paced commander draft environment for up to eight players. With a variety of powerful archetypes to choose from, this list is ever-updating as I learn more about what works and what needs improving. The cards within reflect my favorite aspects of the game, and as such some design choices might not align with your own. If you like the list but want to take some of the archetypes in different directions, feel free to shake things up to fit your own playstyle and playgroup! Have fun and enjoy!
Cards shown in the card gallery are the versions of these cards currently in my physical copy of this cube
This list updates semi-regularly to improve the health of the draft environment
Cards in this half of the cube contain only cards that CANNOT be your commander, so no legendary creatures or commander-planeswalkers. When drafting these 480 cards, players will be given three 20 card packs; picking 2 cards per pack.
(E.G. You cannot play:
() in a
deck as you cannot cast it with only
,
, or
, while you CAN play:
in a mono or mono
deck, as you can either cast it with just
OR cast it with its flashback ability with just
. This also means any colorless with no color pips in its casting cost is fair game, even if it has a color identity.)
(Cycling, transmuting, or channeling the card does not count as casting for rule 1)
You may include any cards drafted from both the Commander packs and Deck packs in your deck so long as they follow rule 1.
Your deck MUST contain exactly 60 cards, including Commanders. (Companions would be the 61st card if used)
Companions follow the original Companion rule.
The Conjure ability of a card triggers only ONCE per game. Tokens do not trigger their own conjure ability. This ability CANNOT be copied. It can, however, be countered. In such a case, the controller will not get another chance to trigger the ability again that game.
If your deck's color identity is EXACTLY 1 color, you may have 2 Commanders of that color identity as though they have partner. You CANNOT use a Commander that has multiple colors in its identity in this way. (Flip Avacyn is 2 colors, so cannot be one of them. This also does not change normal commanders with the partner ability.)
Cards in your draft pool that have not been included in your deck are considered as cards you own outside the game for wishboard effects. You may take any card from these cards regardless of color identity when resolving a wish effect.
Nonbasic lands follow the original commander deck restriction rule when being considered for inclusion in a deck. If its color identity is outside of your deck's colors, it cannot be included.
