Tribal drafting is on rails, and Commander drafting is on rails, so why not do both?

Overview
  • 600 cards. Commanders mixed in with the rest of the pool.
  • Mono-color legends have Partner
  • 3x20 card packs, two-at-a-time draft picks a la Commander Legends.
  • 9 tribes, plus artifacts- and enchantments-matter.
Cube Structure
  • Each tribe gets 30 dedicated cards. With 11 themes, that's 330 cards or a little over half the cube.
  • 40 "staple" cards, each of which included 3 times. See below for more details.
  • 30 Changeling and "Choose your tribe" cards
  • 70 Assorted Cards, mostly noncreatures, and including some draft-matters cards
  • 40 Gateway Plaza. This is actually a custom card "Shorepost" Land - Locus. ETB lose life for each Locus you control. T: Add any color. Gateway Plaze is roughly the Elo I'm shooting for; if I use a better placeholder land the bots just soak all them up.
  • 10 "Pet" cards of my friends that will be playing the cube. These can be anything at all that they want to include.

Staple Cards

Many cubes are singleton, and part of what defines Commander is the singleton nature. Like with Commander Legends, though, I found it helpful to allow multiples of cards to enhance the draft process. I also envision some other benefits of including specifically multiples of famous EDH cards:

  • Reduce the reading and comprehension necessary to play the cube.
  • Allow multiple players to have the staple cards they expect to help a deck feel like an EDH deck.
  • Having a little repetition also allows for some degree of playing around things.
  • Simplifies and focuses cube construction by making sure there are at least 3 of a given expected effect for that color.

The draft-matters cards added too much complexity to a complex format. Also cut a few other Assorted cards to get the list down to 600.
