Triangularity (formerly Simple Cube)

Welcome to Triangularity! In the modern age of Magic, card design has become more and more supplemented by the use of external game pieces namely tokens, counters, and double faced cards. Though these elements are all important in adding longevity and variety to the card designs, the combination of everything can be tiring.

The Rules
  • No cards that cause players to shuffle
  • No cards that create tokens of any kind
  • No cards that have counters of any kind (including planeswalkers)
  • No double faced cards

These rules were what lead me to design my original "Simple" Cube list. I enjoyed many aspects of that list, however, I found that I was constantly fighting against the dominance of multicolor piles. Many of the decks and archetypes I wanted to push were limited by aspects of the restrictions or power level while a good, clean 2-for-1 would reign supreme.

This struggle, plus the printing of some very cool, and very value oriented cards from the (at the time of writing) new set Dragonstorm lead to this list. Instead of fighting against the value piles what if I embraced them?

In this list I am exploring:

  • Making a low-power, value-dense format engaging while hopefully avoiding some of the common pitfalls of that style of environment.
  • Mechanically simple cards, depth to come from navigating the tempo/value axis.
  • A higher tolerance for gold cards with players to explore the complexity of higher color counts.
