"There's a good chance you'll do something broken, unfair, and mean"
Forbidden Trash is an eternal cube, streamlined for unconventional play spaces.
  • Discard your cards and be happy about it
  • Cast spells for free
  • Look at the top of your library
  • Count how many cards are in your graveyard
  • Pay life to win

You probably won't...

  • Create a token or put counters on anything
  • Shuffle in the middle of a game
  • Read cards in anyone's graveyard
234 cards?
  • 6 drafters, 3 packs of 13 = 234
  • 4 drafters, 4 packs of 13, discard the last 3 from each pack = 208

For Players

Please note: There are six (6) copies of Cloudpost, and eight (8) total loci.

Key Mechanics
  • Affinity

  • Threshold

Design Notes

The nucleation point for the list was asking:

"What if the graveyard matters, but text in the graveyard doesn't?"

It follows the bar cube concept, and is intended to feel distinct from my main cube, Pink Sleeves. The power band is very wide and there is a high density of synergy pieces related to the core mechanics.

I wrote about my experience designing this cube here: Cube Design and the Zeitgeist

More design and testing notes are available on my tumblr (zoydraft.tumblr.com/tagged/TrashIV) and in the changelog.

Restrictions

Not hard and fast rules, but strong preferences. These restrictions should not need to be explained to players in advance.

  • No extra game pieces
    • No tokens, no counters, no dungeons, etc.
  • Only cards that can be played unsleeved
    • No dual-faced cards or cards with non-standard backs.
  • No shuffling
  • No relevant text in graveyards
    • No recursion
    • No abilities that are active in the graveyard (e.g. Flashback)
    • No cards that check anything other than number of cards in the graveyard (e.g. Threshold is good, Delirium is not)
  • Dual lands must have some benefit makes them playable in off colours
    • Bounceland
    • Scrylands (ideally would be Surveils, but $$$)
    • Artifact lands
    • Cycling lands

add molt tender!
