This is my budget synergy cube.
My main goals with the cube are to highlight mostly fun and interactive cards that are slightly lower in power level from traditional competitive gameplay. This cube is similar to peasant cubes with the notable inclusion of bulk rares.
Budget: Currently, the average price per card is ~$0.30 USD. Several standard legal cards are pulling that average way up and are expected to fall as they rotate out. Though I will keep an eye on cards that are particularly expensive post-rotation and adjust accordingly. All cards over $1.00 USD is marked with 💲.
Synergy: Gameplay focuses more on overall card synergies and generating value through niche interactions, rather than raw, single-card power. This cube aims to mimic a limited environment of a "Master's" set. Many cards are selected for their ability to act as glue between archetypes. While there there is some tolerance for power outliers, the power delta between cards is kept to a minimum.
ArchetypesThe archetypes in this cube attempt to unify two-color pairs into 5 shards/wedges as described in this article Triangular Cube Design.
The five overarching archetypes are as follows:
Jeskai Heroic/Valiant/Prowess
Naya Modified Monsters
Abzan Modified Dies
Sultai Graveyard Delirium
Grixis Artifact Discard
An aura focused version of the heroic strategy. Enchant cheap creatures that provide more value for being targeted by spells. Bestow and Disturb creatures allow you to have a high density of creatures and auras.
This deck looks to draw and discard cards to generate more value and can be combined with several artifact payoffs.
Use treasures, blood tokens, and sacrifice outlets in an aggressive strategy that can shift gears in the late game by turning into a value pile that does the last bit of damage needed.
An aggressive midrange deck that looks to put bigger creatures in play and win through sheer numbers. Several cards care about either modified or the power of creatures you control, making it synergize with +1/+1 counters.
Similar to Gruul, this deck is a midrange strategy that builds up a board of big creatures. This deck has more of a focus on enchantments synergies, but also supports +1/+1 counters.
This deck wants to get creatures on board and build them up with +1/+1 counters or enchantments while also being able to sacrifice them to trigger death effects. Most creatures are able to retain their value even after death.
A tempo strategy that utilizes aggressive prowess creatures and looters to trigger madness spells. This deck has a little bit of extra reach to close out games that go late by using burn and flashback.
A midrange strategy that uses the graveyard to fuel bigger creatures. There is also a slight reanimator theme with cycling creatures like Titanoth Rex and reanimation spells.
Aggressive Valiant deck that uses a mixture of equipment, enchantments, and triggered abilities to retrigger valiant or heroic on a few cheap creatures.
Fill up your graveyard and use it as a second hand. Most cards care about having certain card types in the graveyard, or are able to be cast from the graveyard for additional value.
Wanting to push more Prowess. Already added Bedlam Reveler, now I want to slow down the red decks a little, while also providing more instants and sorceries.
