The Purple Cube enables a balanced and flavorful Magic experience for casual players and experts alike. It captures broad and deep Magic flavors and themes with the minimum cards needed for a full draft table. It has some less traditional guidelines:
Minimize cheap blowouts and high variance cards.
Encourage two-color decks.
Few gold cards but ample mana fixing.
No cheap mana denial.
Honor the color pie.
Limit cards that are clearly better or worse than most of the cube.
Value versatile cards, e.g. cards with many modes or that fit into multiple spots on the mana curve.
Some more specific rules that limit the design space:
No specific color protection.
Two Planeswalkers for each mono color, and multi-color Planeswalkers only where they are a great choice for that guild slot.
No "strictly better" cards.
No functional reprints.
Also to support novice players:
Avoid textless cards.
Avoid cards with back faces.
This cube has been used for:
six to eight player conventional drafts (-- and even a sanctioned draft once)
