I built this cube in 2016 and kept it updated with each new set release for many years. I built it as a love letter to the 25+ year history of Magic: the Gathering. Recently I hit a breaking point where I no longer feel any reverence for the history of the game, and I no longer wanted to update the cube to inevitable include new cards from products like Unfinity or the Warhammer 40k commander precons. As such, I decided to roll the cube back to a simpler time when I was having more fun with Magic, and keep it around as a memento of where I was in my life when I had such a passion for this game.

I decided to remove any cards that were first printed in 2020 or later, and in doing so, I dropped this cube down from 540 cards to 450. What remains is a fun and solid cube, that is a snapshot in time of what the cutting edge for cube looked like circa 2019. It still looks fairly similar to other, modern 450 lists. But I expect that to change more and more as time goes on, and that's okay!

Here is the original cube description, which is still true along with the additional caveat that I am not including cards printed in 2020 or later:

The cube aims to construct an environment containing the most powerful cards from among all vintage-legal cards ever released for the game. Each card in the cube is represented by its first possible printing, with the exception that the Beta printings were used for cards from Alpha/Beta. Every card is a real original printing, aside from the power nine and the ten original dual lands, which are currently proxied for price reasons. If I every get around to owning the Collector's Edition version of these cards, I will sub those in instead.

This cube began life as a mirror of the contents of the wonderful cube run by wtwlf123 in 2016, and has grown to become more of its own thing over time. The archetypes supported in this cube are:

Tokens/Aristocrats
Artifact Combo
Reanimator
Wildfire
Fatty Cheating (Oath/Sneak/Show)

In addition to these more specific archetypes, more general aggro, midrange, and control decks are all heavily supported in just about every color combination. The cube aims to be balanced among these strategies such that any one of them are equally viable, all things considered equal.
