I have a 360 card peasant modern cube I love, but these days I mostly have opportunity to play with 1 or 3 other people, and I'd like a cube that fits that purpose.
In researching low-player cubes, I found reccs to cut colors. When I thought about 3-color environments, I latched on to mardu. The overlap of tokens, aristocrats, and combat shenanigans that the colors share is the kind of magic I enjoy.
I imagined I'd find a good number of other examples of 2-4p, 3c, peasant cubes, but I have not. So I guess this is sort of an experiment!
Arhcetypes:Boros - little dudes getting into combat. Mentor etc.
Orzhov - lifegain, drain, blood artist-like effects
Rakdos - aristocrats
Play with some friends who have some experience with drafting recent sets. Usu 2 player, but support up to 4. Playgroup not invested in cube. It may be something to play on occasion.
Peasant. Not spending much money. Avoid hard-to-track mechanics, like transforming, the dungeon, night/day etc.
Should feel like powerful set draft decks, or a modern masters draft.
I like combat and combat tricks. I enjoy finding mild synergies in limited environments. Board stalls, combo wins should be nigh-impossible. Mana screw / flood should be rare. Harder to scrub out than in a normal set draft. Mid-low variance, understandable given limitations.
Okay, back down to 180, but now with mana fixing, a spells package, some more removal, and (maybe too much?) mono color support.
I thought I'd be able to find some cards with hybrid mana containing green or blue that could serve as mono-color cards, but I didn't actually like them that much.
Thanks for the follow! This now feels very "retail limited" in a good way. I always like seeing curators aiming for different power level experiences rather than generic powermaxing. In particular, I like that the power level is low enough that combat tricks aren't being overshadowed.
