A draft experience for 4-6 players drafting 5 packs of 9 cards each with a gimmick:
Every card has converted mana cost of . Kicker and other additional costs are allowed.
The only exception is Mistblade Shinobi which I consider a 1-mana card.
X-Spells are not considered.
This is my remix of MTGCubeTuber's One-Drop Cube, found here
It itself is his iteration of ThomKrone's One-Drop Cube, found here
I got hooked quickly on this format and sought to design the cube to be a little bit more archetype focused but ultimately centered around creatures and combat.
Of course players need to adapt to the limitation just as much as I did and learn what cards are actually powerful if everything costs one mana.
My design goal was for all colors to have a relatively equal amount of soft (Sleep of the dead) and hard removal (Bind the Monster).
Furthermore this format is low to the ground as most creatures have between 1 and 3 power and toughness and limited keyword abilities. Because of that I decided to include a good amount of combat tricks to keep the board state dynamic.
Mana sinks: +
(+
)
Cards that have an additional cost to them that get better in the mid- and lategame. Goes well with mana dorks like Gilded Goose.
E.g. Student of warfare, Figure of destiny and spectral sailor.
Equipment: +
Some creatures like Kor Duelist and fervent Champion want you to equip them for extra benefit. There are lots of equipment like eater of virtue to go around.
Prowess: +
+
Prowess (Monastery swiftspear) and pseudo-prowess (Myth Realized) creatures want you to cast a lot of noncreature spells like Sleep of the dead to pump them up.
Sacrifice: (+
)
Sacrifice your own creatures for value (Village Rites) or to grow your Carrion Feeder. Many of them can be returned from your graveyard by themselves (Gutterbones) or with some help (Phyrexian Reclamation).
Evasion / Burn: +
+
(+
)
Evasive creatures like Skymarcher Aspirant go great with card draw like Curious Obsession to generate value while pressuring your opponent. Also an option: help your big creatures like Old-growth dryad fly over for massive damage thanks to Wingcrafter.
Keens sense and the like go well with direct damage from sources like grim lavamancer.
Zombies:
There are a lot of zombies available in black and a handful of cards like Champion of the perished and gravecrawler want you to have at least a few in your BX deck.
Top cards in each color:
