This cube has changed a lot as several sets have pushed power levels and new mechanics. Keeping this list for posterity, as a moment in time, so that we can refer back to the roots. Omni+ is the current iteration of this cube. all future changes are being maintained there.
OMNI is my paper cube and it's crafted to be a play experience for myself and my group of friends, who have varied play experience and patterns, so we can play Magic anytime without feeling repetitive.
I stopped playing Magic 1996, to go outside and socialize more. Funny enough I rediscovered it in 2018 when I needed a reminder of good times and socialize more. Luckily, my wife was really into it for the artwork and the depth of the game is wide enough to provide good experiences for her as a newbie, and my gaming friends who ranged from newbies to experienced.
While the game has grown tremendously during my +20 year absence, I found the core experience of drafting and deck construction were alive and thrived in Limited. And so got into Cubing as a way to introduce the joy of drafting, deck construction and playing; all in one set of cards. My friends wouldn't need to buy cards and I would be able to enjoy the game with others.
This cube was upgraded from a Card Kingdom Starter Cube v5. Because of my absence from the game, I had very few cards and started with a pre-built one from Card Kingdom. After a few drafts and playing other cubes, I wanted to add more power to the experience without breaking the balance of the color pie; I want everyone, new and experienced, to feel like a powerful mage.
I want to provide players a variety of ways to win, using the classic macro-archetypes of Aggro, Midrange, Control and Combo. With regards to Color and Creature to Spell ratio, players are enabled to build strong 1 or 2 color synergy decks, with splashes for certain cards, thus the small gold-card count. Aiming for a creature-based play experience plus classic cards from Legacy/Vintage.
On size, 360 is too constrictive and 540 seems like some decks won't come together. This cube is singleton because I value having some tension and speculation during drafting, and provides a good variety of gameplay.
OMNI is a Cube that is reminiscent of the good ol' days; somewhat balanced, fun and exciting. It reminds me of tinkering with my collection as kid, building decks and facing off with my friends with different decks every week.
