Cloned from Neo Magic Cube (2015-2024)
My friends and I are quite casual Magic: the Gathering enjoyers. More casual than even having ready decks, or in their cases, having a full understanding of the rules. I wanted to bring the fun and charm of the game to all of them, without requiring deckbuilding, investment or other metagamey thought investment. So I printed out a legacy cube from a while back, one I exclusively knew from youtube videos (this one: https://cubecobra.com/cube/overview/ozz ), and brought it on a ski trip for those nights off the mountain.
It was a huge hit! We did a draft, and everyone had some fun enjoying very low skill gameplay. It's become a staple of the yearly trip. But one year, as I was casting Primal Command attempting to stabilize against a Consecrated Sphinx, I thought to myself: there are so many new, modern cards that have such different effects from what we're playing with here, I want to bring my friends new Magic the same way I brought them (not very) classic Magic.
With that in mind, consider my intention: show the turbo-casuals what has changed over the years in Magic: the Gathering land. Where you one could just cast Swords to Plowshares or Counterspell to get rid of something, now you have to Lay Down Arms or Disallow. Thus the esssence of neo spells: effects you could do before but worse.
And yet, creatures are more terrifying now! The cube is laden with new bombs, all pressing threats with splashy or repeatable effects.
