This cube is for every card you ever looked at and thought wow, that's really cool, I wish I could build a deck around it, but you knew it wasn't good enough. Chances are, it's here! The dream of this cube is letting cards and engines shine that historically haven't been good enough to see constructed love, or consistent enough to see limited love. Did I accidentally build a cube where Nomads En-Kor is a pack 1 pick 1 and white is the combo color? Maybe.
I wanted to make midrage and ramp feel distinctly different in this cube, so I've made the weird decision to keep the mana value in the cube strictly 4 cmc and lower. Instead, the cube has a heavy focus on activated abilities, recursion, and shenangans. Ramp and mana however remain very relevant as a lot of the value generating abilities require a lot of mana to pull off, and there are still ramp payoffs in the deck - they just show up as activated abilities on low cmc creatures. Combos are present in the cube but usually require 3+ pieces, and inventive thinking. The real focus is on generating repeatable value, and jank.
There are a lot of notable combo exclusions in this cube - I've tried to avoid combo pieces that are centralizing, or even highly recognizable, in favor of less-known versions. We've all seen 1,000 different combos with Ashnod's Altar, Devoted Druid, or Blasting Station, no need to include them here. What has resulted in the cube is combos I didn't even realize were in there, which leads to the excitement of discovery - that fantastic MTG moment of "Wait... is this infinite?" However, this can make drafting really difficult, and slow, so I tried to outline some of the most notable combos below to make the cube more accessible.
Target Swans of Bryn Argoll with Chain of Plasma, draw three, discard to copy Chain, draw you deck, and then pitch it at your opponent using Firestorm, Chain of Sickness, Conflagrate, or just move to Cleanup and let Glint-Horn Buccaneer do the work.
Equip Seeker of Skybreak with Illusionist's Bracers and now you can untap another creature and the Seeker at the same time for infinite untaps! Pair with any free ability to probably win the game!
Got more cards in your library than your opponent? Make Flumph indestructible, and then target it with Chain of Plasma, you both draw, discard the card you draw to copy Chain of Plasma, and keep going till you deck your opponent! It's recommended you wait until they're tapped out, since they will draw their whole deck.
Turn Halo Fountain into a creature using Alloy Animist, and then use it's second ability to untap your Halo Fountain creature and a creature that generates 2 or more mana. Draw your deck and hopefully generate enough mana to win the game!
Either by equipping Goblin Welder with Thornbite Staff or by turning Welder into an artifact and having Dross Scorpion out, untap Golbin Welder after every activation, and cycle through any two artifact creatures, abusing ETB/death triggers of things like Cathodion, Circuit Mender, Arcbound Javelineer, and Twinshot Sniper!
POP POP POP
Coralhelm ComboWith Retreat to Coralhelm and Sakura-Tribe Scout, you can put a bounce land into play over and over for infinite landfall triggers. Pair with Cloudstone Curio instead and you can use any lands, and generate infinite mana.
Voltaic ConstructTurn anything that taps for >2 mana into an artifact creature and generate infinite mana using voltaic construct.
Magda ClockTurn Magda, Brazen Outlaw into an artifact using any number of cards, then tap Magda and the treasures she creates to untap Magda. Creates infinite artifact ETBs, and infinite mana and artifact death triggers on your next turn
Inside-OutMake big toughness creatures, swing with them, and switch their power and toughness. Other than below there's also Task Force and Shaman en-Kor as infinite toughness enablers, Trenching Steed as another Tribe-like creature, Twisted Reflection and Strange Inversion as toughness switchers, and Severed Strands as another angle in black.
Harvest PyreBuild a big graveyard, enchant an opponents creature with Ragged Veins, and then Harvest Pyre it for X equals good enough, all at instant speed! You can also Pyre your own Broodhatch Nantuko for a bunch of bugs, or target your Boros Reckoner / Spitemare redirecting to your opponent's face
Guilty ConscienceMake a Spitemare or Boros Reckoner indestructible, and then give it Guilty Conscience. Swing or find any other way to deal damage and then it will keep triggering more damage until your oponnent is dead.
RETROMANCER???2 Card instant kill combo with Nomads En-Kor and Retromancer I never said who it kills though. But add in a Spirit Link or a Vampiric Link, and suddenly you have infinite life gain triggers. Pair with Mauring Blight-Priest to win, or just with Children of Korlis for infinite life.
