This is a medium complexity, 3-5 player cube with four colors (no blue).

My drafters are veteran boardgamers who have some Magic experience, but it was mostly ages ago. They figure out cards and strategies quickly enough, but they have more fun when they don't have to squint and re-read every card.

Medium Complexity Budget

• Using complexity where it counts
• Some wordy cards, but not a wordy format like Commander
• Many easy to understand cards
• Average word count is like retail draft
• Not too many random keywords

Why Four Colors

• Facilitates competition for the colors with fewer players
• No blue due to color preferences of my drafters

Good, Simple Mana

• 30 OG duals (15% land)
• Players can trade in dual lands after draft if at least one color matches
• Lands from trade-in are a downgrade of the player's choice. Trade box has fast, pain, check, and other lands available.

Aggro and Aggro-Control

• Decks don't have to be mid-range
• Good aggressive one drops available
• Fast, reliable mana
• Decks can be designed along a spectrum to be more agressive or controlling
• Removal in is reasonably plentiful
• Instant speed tricks in every color
• Card advantage opportunities in every color
• Pure control is not really supported but might be possible

Budget and Category

I'm using proxy dual lands, and none of the other cards are expensive. Cost of nonland cards (all of which are found in a Modern frame) is under $160 as I write.
