Theme: MtG's rejected and unplayed cards
Power Level: Draft deck of a mid-90's set that doesn't have Pestilence in it
Singleton: About 98% Singleton
Customized Cards: Yes, about 20% edited
Formats: Draft, Sealed, and Dumpstart

The Dumpster Cube is an ante-casserole of playtest cards, pre-modern dinosaurs, silver borders and dexterity cards, all played unsleeved and Alpha-trimmed, as Garfield intended. The cube features many simple sharpie'd customizations to rebalance the environment and to upgrade the ante cards, making them the shining stars of this 720 cube. Expect your cardpool to evolve through your limited experiences as each game plays for ante and many cards have additional ante requirements. Did your opponent flip a basic into their ante pile? Well, that's great for you, because there are no land stations in this draft. Each player only starts with 4 of each basic land and an updated copy of Jeweled Bird (https://i.imgur.com/FjFrbkp.png).

This cube is also designed to feature a fast 1v1 pickup format called "Dumpstart." Its not much different from Jumpstart. Each player grabs 3 packs of random cards from the cube, jams their land kit into it, shuffles and plays. No looking and no deckbuilding (as Garfield intended?)

My goal is for this to feature cards which normally don't get played in a wild, casual and intuitive cube experience, catering to both a quick 1v1 limited environment and a deep drafted tournament for a table of spikes. There is a clearer and more formal rules breakdown in the Garbage Gatherer and each event starts with an in-character speech to introduce format and to level-set expectations. I've included the intro script and the Garbage Gatherer below.

INTRO SPEECH

Born from forgotten mechanics, betrothed to draft chaff and silver borders, we welcome you to the celebratory amalgam of Dominia’s REJECTS. Relish in… the DUMPSTER CUBE. As we near the verge of these archetypes’ extinctions, we must hold fast to the fading cards that may never see the light of PLAY again. Let us lift the bin-lid to the “Garbage the Gathering” cesspool…feel the moist, buffeting pungency waft passed on butterfly wings. SAVOR the juicy scent of fruited vinegar. Breathe deep and bear the browning of our lungs. (DEEP INHALE, AUDIBLY TASTE MOUTH)

But before we DIVE headfirst and sink our teeth into the sloppy puddles of Garfield’s goop, I must request you bear in mind the DUMPSTER CUBE’s unique stipulations…

Firstly, we play for ante. At the beginning of each GAME, after resolving mulligans, each player exiles one card from the top card of their library to THEIR Ante Zone, for EACH game they have won in this event; the more you WIN the more you MUST ante! The WINNER of said game adds ALL cards in ALL ante zones to their personal, limited pool of cards, which may be sideboarded IMMEDIATELY. Each MATCH is best of three. But Beware! Just like drawing a card from an empty deck, a player loses a game if they cannot ante when required. So gamble wisely, gathered wizards, as one man’s trash is another man’s PLEASURE.

Secondly, you will only start with four of each basic land. Ante matters, ESPECIALLY with the basics! In addition to the land kit, each drafter starts with one copy of Jeweled Bird in their pool

Thirdly, some cards have additional, ERRATA text. Please refer to the GARBAGE GATHERER on Cube Cobra for their new DUMPSTER ERRATA TEXT. Most cards are intuitive, but should you have a rules question, there is only ONE judge, and that judge us your opponent. In your uncertainty, they will decide your fate. So fight with honour, or the allow the dishonorable decision to brandish a tainted legacy...

Fourthly, there is a new mechanic in this set called “FINITE.” Cards with “FINITE” have an additional drawback. FINITE cards are One-Time Use. When a card with FINITE finishes, it is EXILED, then place it in your OPPONENT’S sideboard. You will NEVER end the draft with the same pool with which you began. So chess players! Leave YOUR BOARds ‘round the DOOR, FOR reSOURces are to FLOURish, not to saVOR, and reWARDS stand for spenders, not for HOARDers. In The Dumpster Cube, continual construction is REQUIRED!

Lastly, in this refuse-ridden Thunderdome of rubbish, clutch your cultch for dear life for you WILL fight to the death. There are NO concessions. There are NO surrenders. There are NO draws. Should time be called for an undecided match, combatants will ENTER THE CHAOS DIMENSION to prepare a sacrifice to THE CHAOS ORB. For every cause there is effect, and in this fated causality, you can BET YOUR LIFE there WILL be casualties.

That being said, let us RE-LIVE the discarded days when crummy cards were good, when filthy, unsleeved cards were riffle shuffled and when mana bases were… questionable. For this is the DUMPSTER CUBE, and by my name, Nolan Bon Jean-Beaux, Noble Baron of Gahr-bahge, the Lord of the Landfill, The Sludge-ed Muck Duke, I climb to the top of our pile and decree: “Let the garbage games COMMENCE!”

ENTER THE CHAOS DIMENSION

"The Orb punishes human dawdling! The Orb hungers! The Orb WILL feed! The Orb DEMANDS Sacrifice!"

If time for the match is called, and if there is no victor after Turn Five, then the two undecided players Enter The Chaos Dimension. No more than two players may Enter the Chaos Dimension at a time. Each player in The Chaos Dimension antes one card (*1a, *1b), then selects a card from their ante to be their Avatar. Each player in The Chaos Dimension places their Avatar on their opponent’s battlefield to prepare The Altar of The Chaos Orb. Non-active players will surround The Chaos Dimension to provide a slow, rhythmic drum beat (*1c) to Summon The Orb and to Prepare the Sacrifice. The host recites the Orb’s Mantra (*1d). Once the Mantra is complete, each player in The Chaos Dimension is assigned a copy of Chaos Orb. Players in the Chaos Dimension will begin the rounds (*1e) of flipping orbs (*1f), to sacrifice their opponent’s Avatar. When a player’s Avatar is Sacrificed, they receive a game loss. Repeat this process until a victor for the match is declared, with each new round requiring a supplemental ante of one.

*1a If a player cannot Ante 1, they receive a game loss
*1b Players can use static ante replacement effects of permanents in play (i.e. Bronze Calendar)
*1c Non-active players are to stomp, knock their fist the table, or beat their chest, in rhythmic unison
*1d Nolan Bon Jean-Beaux: "We gather now, to provide The Orb the blood they crave. The Orb punishes human dawdling! The Orb hungers! The Orb WILL feed! The Orb DEMANDS Sacrifice!"
*1e Rounds consist of up to twenty Orb Flips. Non-active players are to count aloud each Orb Flip. Players flip their orbs simultaneously until one player’s Avatar is Sacrificed and another’s isn’t. The round begins with orbs being flipped at a height requirement of at least two feet, with the height being lowered by six inches every five orb flips. Each new round begins with a unified recitation of the Orb’s Mantra.
*1f Flipping the orb & what matters:
--The Chaos Orb must be flipped from at least the current designated height
--During the Orb’s fall, the card must turns over completely at least 360 degrees and land resting on the chosen permanent
--Players may not interfere with Chaos Orb as it flips
--In The Dumpster Cube, it doesn't matter if the Orb lands face up or face down

GARBAGE GATHERER ver 1.7

ANTE: After resolving mulligans, each player antes one card from the top of their shuffled library before each game, then one additional card for each game they have won in the event (finals will be at least ante 5 before each game). These ante contributions go into each player's Ante Zone. The winner of each game gains ownership of all cards in all Ante Zones. If a card reads “+X Ante,” then you must place X cards from the top of your library into your Ante Zone as an additional cost to play/cast the card. Anteing cards from an empty library results in a game loss, similar to drawing from an empty deck. The Ante Zone is considered removed from the game. If a card has a "-X Ante," then choose up to X cards from your ante pile and put them into your hand.

CONCEDING: There is no conceding. Fight to the death.

DRAWS: There are no draws in The Dumpster Cube. If time runs out or a match would end in a draw, then the players will Enter The Chaos Dimension to decide a victor.

DECKSIZE: You may play a deck with less than 40 cards if you own less than 40 cards. If you do, all cards you own must be in your library.

"FINITE" If the spell is a permanent, then when this card leaves the battlefield or the game ends, exile it and put it into an opponent’s sideboard; this change in ownership is permanent. If the spell is a non-permanent, then when this card resolves, exile it and put it into an opponent’s sideboard; this change in ownership is permanent.

"SUPER SPLIT SECOND" While this card/ability is on the stack, your opponent cannot cast spells, activate abilities, or touch cards in play. If they voluntarily touch their cards in play while this spell/ability is on the stack, they lose the game.
