This is a 476 powered vintage cube.
The aim is to create motivating fun gameplay in a nostalgia filled setting, with only cards printed in Old Border. Allowing the playgroup til cast all-time classics like Juzam Djinn, Serra Angel, Ancestral Recall, Shivan Dragon and Black lotus.
Archetypes
In this cube, you can almost always default into a control, aggro, or midrange deck, but there are a number of archetypes you can opt into as well that I'd like to highlight.
Wildfires
A Cube classic, this control deck uses Wildfire and Burning of Xinye combined with mana rocks to gain mana advantage and keep the board clear of creatures. When drafting this deck, make sure to pick up as many mana rocks as possible. This deck is base-red, but it can play any color as the second for different flavors. 5 toughness creatures like Covetous Dragon is important, as they survive the damage. Covetous dragon is especially good in this deck, as it will contain plenty of artifacts.
Mono Color aggro
Monocolor aggro decks are best supported in red, white, and black. Green has few turn-one plays but will need a second colour to shine, and blue have zero one drops. On the other hand, red, white, and black have a healthy amount of aggressively costed one- and two-mana creatures. Each color provides different strengths:
Discard / Graveyard matters
This Blue/Green based deck, utilizes discard outlets to gain value and cheat madness cards in like Basking Rootwalla or Circular Logic.
This deck also gains value from effects like flashback or threshold, and cards liks Genesis.
Re-animator
Again a classic. A wide range of old flavour reanimator spells like Coffin Queen and Recurring Nightmare, will allow to bring back classical bombs like Spirit of the Night or Akroma. Combines well both with green for big creatures and blue for discard outlets.
Enchantments matters
All 3 enchantress' from magic's history is included in this cube. In this green based deck, they will act as a strong card-engine, and can be combined with blue, black or white with Opalescence for a win-con.
Small critters value
This blue control deck, utilizes the power of Opposition and as slightly worse alternatives Tradewind Rider or Equilibrium to lock the opponent out.
Combines well with green for mana dorks or white for token makers like Sacred Mesa.
Artifacts matter
This deck is typically blue based, and try to generate loads of mana from either Tolarian Academy or Metalworker. Supplementet with mana rocks, this deck can produce a lot of mana.
Card advantage can be gained with cards like Temporal Aperture or Stroke of Genius and win by using X spells like Disintegrate or Snake Basket.
An alternative version cheats out big artifact creatures with Tinker.
Cheat out Creatures
Use Oath of Druids or Sneak Attack to cheat out big creatures! This deck have no Eldrazi's but a line of classical sneak attack targets have been added like Serra Avatar and Weatherseed Treefolk.
The Ban List
Our playgroup have chosen two cards to ban, due to being frustrating to loose to. Those are:
Mind Twist and Library of Alexandria.
