Inspired by bullet chess, I wanted a small cube that can be drafted quickly for high impact, interesting, tactical games. After playing a bit of other games (chess and poker mainly), I really enjoyed the idea of all decisions being critical and all exchanges being two sided, with there being ample counter play and ways to get your opponent on the backfoot. This cube seeks to be a small, portable experience, with the

Cube Structure

This cube is meant to be drafted face up: Deal out 7 cards, one player takes, the other takes two, the first to pick takes another. continue until each player has drafted 36 cards. Players then build 30 card decks. The math checks out on this, ratios are taken from 40 card draft decks.

Cards are meant to be low cost (3 at most, the occasional 4, "virtual" cmc delve, free cast, etc. are also included). Games are meant to involve lots of decision points and interactions. Both players should be presenting and/or answering threats frequently.

Themes / Gameplay Emphases

In so few cards, it's hard to properly implement any archetypes, and the focus on fast, dynamic gameplay dissuades me from letting decks be engine assembly-offs. I love that kind of gameplay, but that's not the idea here.

WHITE

White cards focus on tokens, small creatures and combat tricks. First strike is a powerful ability, and white seeks to make the most of it. White also has the best removal by far, with the full suite of cheap exile effects.

BLUE

Blue wants to bury its opponent on card advantage and tempo. Unsummon may seem like an unimpressive card, but when you can bounce their creature that they just targeted with an equipment, you gain up to 3 pips of mana advantage.

BLACK

Black is the resilient aggro deck. Small, powerful threats that can come back over and over again. Small sac spells like Village Rites seek to act like pseudo-counters for removal.

RED

Live fast, die young. Red seeks to go as fast as possible, but can play a slow game if the game requires. With how small this cube is, lightning bolt is basically murder, but they also are excellent when going to the face and pumping up your Kiln Friend.

GREEN

Green wants to punch through. If white has combat tricks, green simply assumes combat superiority. If they think the blocks are a little bit too good to be true, they probably are - Mutagenic Growth is ready to end their day.
