My playgroup always plays with an additional rule, but it's still fun without it:
Drafting isn't necessary. In between rounds of regular limited, I'll pull out two stacks of roughly 60 cards from the cube and say "Here's your deck, you have infinite mana and you can play one spell per turn."
If you have time, drafting the cube is even better. If you have first-timers, I'd suggest doing Rochester Draft. This way you can discuss the picks, and everyone can see every card that's drafted. (Packs are drafted one at a time, face up.)
Solomon Draft is also great for 2-player drafting. (Every Pack is a Fact or Fiction)
Carl's list included 4 custom cards:
Sorcery - Arcane Plains
Target player may play up to three additional spells until the end of turn.
Cycling
When you cycle Decree of the Creator, you may play an additional spell until the end of turn.
Legendary Land
You may play up to two spells each turn.
Whenever you have no cards in hand sacrifice Tolarian Scrubbery.
Instant
As an additional cost to play Real Good Looking Tutor, compliment target opponent.
Playing Real Good Looking Tutor does not count towards your spell limit for the turn.
Search your library for a card, reveal it, and then put it into your hand. Then shuffle your library.
Sorcery
Permanently exchange places with target player.
