"There are eight million stories in the naked city. Shall I tell you a few of them?"
SPECIAL CUBE RULES

  • Global emblem: Tamiyo's Deduction. See below.
  • Unique card: There is a single draftable card representing the partner pair of Madame Vastra and Jenny Flint. Drafting this card adds both to your pool.

It was a dark and stormy night...
This is a cube built around Clue tokens. Drafters will typically wind up in one of six three-color draftable archetypes, each interacting with Clues in some way and each including blue. (These archetypes are not hard and fast rules, and there is a fair amount of overlap.) As a result, there are about twice as many blue cards in this cube as any other color, and the majority of mana fixing also includes blue. While it is certainly possible to build a deck without blue, most decks will want to pick up at least some blue cards.

"We know what happened. Now we just have to prove it..."
To ensure players have enough clues to enable their strategies, this cube uses a global emblem called "Tamiyo's Deductions." Whenever one or more creatures deal combat damage to a player for the first time each turn, their controller investigates. It's all well and good to sit back and hypothesize, but if you're going to solve this case, you'll need to get out there and put in some legwork!

"History never repeats itself... but sometimes it rhymes.
Below are a list of the supported archetypes in the cube. None of these are written in stone, and there is typically some overlap among decks.

Whodunnit gwu
Sometimes the simplest means really are the most effective. Once you've eliminated the impossible, after all, what else do you have?

This archetype wants to maintain a large hand size. Use your clues to replenish your hand, and reap the rewards with enormous creatures!

Procedural wub
Success will ultimately derive from using the proper channels. All rules are there for a reason... even if that reason is to occasionally be broken.

You want artifacts, and you want a lot of them. By assembling various pieces of a value engine, you will grind your way to victory by simply having access to more resources than anyone else.

Noir ubr
It's a hard world out there, and some folks are willing to do anything to get ahead. If you wanna get there first, you gotta be willing to make the hard choices.

Sacrifice is the name of the game here. You'll be earning benefits left and right from everything you're giving up; clues are close at hand, but you'll take anything that happens to be lying around.

Thriller urw
Sometimes to get to the truth, you need to go off-script. Hit fast, hit hard, and don't let up until you find what you came for.

This is the most aggressive archetype of them all. Metalcraft and similar effects will reward you for keeping your artifacts around as long as possible, at least until you need the resources later on.

Hardboiled bgu
Getting to the truth takes persistence. Whatever they hit you with, whatever you lose, you need to just keep coming at it. Always keep at least one more trick up your sleeve.

This archetype's strength lies in its resilience. With plenty of tokens and plenty of ways to make them, you'll be able to adapt to any situation and come back from any difficulty.

Cozy Mystery gur
Not every mystery has dire stakes or grand settings. Sometimes, the truth is much more personal, and much closer to home.

Reliable, consistent value will see you through. You have plenty of card draw triggers - especially off the second card per turn - so as long as you have a clue to crack on your turn, you'll always have something to do.
