Peasants Rise Up - A Primer
Introduction:
Welcome to my cube. Peasants Rise Up is my first foray into cube building. I wanted to create a limited environment my friends and I could enjoy when we find the time. I've tried to create something with real depth and choices that matter. I also wanted to do it on a budget because unfortunately I didn't invent the snuggie. Here is hoping you all can enjoy it as much as I do.
A Peasant Cube if you are unfamiliar is similar to the historic cube in that it is a limited, curated set of magic cards. Completely different is the power level and cost. At the cost of perhaps 1 card from Ye Old Vintage Cube I have been able to put together 450 cards that are all Uncommon or Common. I stuck to the singleton format and as of right now the lands are included in this rule set.
I had hoped to be able to put together cards I both want to play and can stand on their own. It is a little easier to balance the cards in a peasant cube and is a much easier format for those who are less familiar with drafting. The archetypes are more basic and the interaction of the cards is much less variant than the swings top tier cards will give. Don’t be fooled that the cards have no play variance and will require some good ole brain power from you to utilize effectively. As such this primer is for you to read and perhaps have a decent idea of how you wish to crush your opponents. Good luck!

What you are looking for...
So ya wana know what to pick out of that pack. Depends on what you want to play, how everyone else wants to play, what ya have in ya hand, and whatcha gonna be putting in ya hand later.
... What I'm saying is that there are a lot of factors that can help you figure out what to draft. I have put a few signpost cards in(these are mostly the gold or dual color cards). The easiest thing to do is pick a direction and go for it in my opinion. The directions mostly fall under
AGGRO-CONTROL-MIDRANGE.Do not fret if in the middle of your draft it feels like all your cards are getting picked up. There are multiple cards that support each archetype, and beyond that you can turn it around and go a different direction. Most of the cards work well together as the synergies are not 100% limited to its color.
AGGRO
In Aggro we have the kings of the cube. White and Red. These are going to be the bread and butter of aggro, with small but aggressive creatures and some spells to support getting the blockers and the player dead.
There is also a good blend of green and black cards good for beating face early.
CONTROL
Of course the pillar of control is going to be blue... did you expect anything different? Fear not, there are a great smattering of cards in black and white to help you direct the way the board plays and lead yourself to victory.
MIDRANGE
When you actually want to play magic for the afternoon you pick midrange. You will want to prioritize the board wipes that are scattered accross the cards. Find blockers and ramp that can get you past the early stage with aggro chomping on your shins. Then you can bust out the big guns and blow them away. There are a few great choices for finishers in all colors, but ramp is green all the way so look out for it getting taken quick.
SHRINES
I cant help it. Shrines were one of my favorite card types among all that I have found so far. So for your pleasure and mine I have included 10 shrines, 2 in each color to help you on your way to greatness. Each of these cards are decent on their own but only get better with help. I would caution you against 5 color good stuff as the mana base in the Cube likely would find you in a tight spot, but hey go for it if you want. The Shrines you find will all help each of the archetypes across the cube and can be themselves very impactful cards in your deck.
