How to draft the cube?Because this cube is built mostly on power level and less on specific build-arounds,
archetypes are somewhat broad. Basically, if you think about what a color combination traditionally does, you can expect that to
be the general strategy of the color pair in this cube. There are a couple of synergies/archetypes though: R/G/U Madness/threshold
(Roar of the Wurm/Anger/Waterfront Bouncer), Psychatog, G/B Sacrifice (Nantuko Husk/Symbiotic Wurm),
Reanimate (Animate Dead/Careful Study)

Context

I've been playing for a long time. In an attempt to recreate the old school feel and play a high number of cool cards from the old days, I built this cube. While nostalgia is an important reason to choose cards, the cube still needs to be somewhat balanced. We tried to insert beloved archetypes, synergies and cards.

This cube will mostly be played with 2-4 players, but can accommodate a a full pod or more. Most of the players I play with are experienced Magic players.
We primarily draft 1v1, using a variation of a 'burn' format (discarding cards facedown in between picks).

Restrictions

This is a Peasant cube. If a card has a common or uncommon printing anywhere (even digital) AND there's a paper version with an old frame it's fair game for inclusion. This makes for some cool inclusions. Triskelion has an official 'uncommon' printing in the French/Italian reprint set, Renaissance/Rinascimento. Goblin Trenches, for example, was uncommon in Vintage Masters (an MTGO-only set) and the Apocalypse version is in the cube.

Power

As expected within these design restrictions, the power level of cards varies wildly. Back in the day spells were generally a lot more powerful than creatures (unlike current Magic). They also didn't know how to cost some things properly (for better and for worse). And because we also run cards that were downshifted more recently or for a specific format, there are cards in the cube that were considered rare power level in 2002. AND because new cards that happen to have old borders are legal, well.. let's just say there's wide power band.

Currently, Sol Ring, Library of Alexandria are out. What? And you include Mana Drain and Strip Mine? Yep. Might be wrong, but I like how it works out.
