This is an inofficial update of the DJV cube with cards until and including Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty. Following the larger update during VOW, this one increases the land count again by including the cycle of legendary channel lands - on the flip side, the cantrip/one-time-fixing artifacts à la Chromatic Sphere are largely gone. I feel this is warranted due to them not really fitting into the efficient game plans of cube decks anymore, and there not being an Emry or similar artifact theme. Furthermore, I further tried to enable a black aggro-control style strategy with cards such as Biting-Palm Ninja. Feedback welcome through the Going Optimal discord!

As always many thanks to DJV, the head designer of this cube - the current official version can be found under the ID "djvarenacube" or be drafted directly on MTGADraft.

This is a power cube meaning that it aims at a "as powerful as Arena allows" level, short of some extreme outliers like Oko. Of course, there are still supported themes (and others that are left out, as always), so here's a short "synergy idea" list to get you started:

  • w has an aggressive side that likes to go alone or combine with r for a classic aggro strategy or b for some value in those poor wheenies dying. On the other hand, it features control options such as boardwipes and the best removal of all times, Swords to Plowshares, commonly combined with u.

  • u has a strong suit of tempo spells and creatures, the latter of which like to combine with w not only for classic control decks, but also the fan-favorite blink decks abusing Soulherder to its maximum. It is perhaps the most versatile color featuring efficient card draw and selection for all decks as well as strong additions to round out any strategy and some spell-centric buildarounds itself.

  • b likes creatures dying, especially when combined with r for sacrifice synergy or w to extort (not literally) the last bit of drop out of your puny opponents. But creatures being dead doesn't mean they can't come back - especially g and w like to go with black to cheat in some big haymakers for relatively cheap (don't worry, no actual Reanimate on Arena).

  • With r, you can join various Chandras for some fun for direct damage to everything that isn't hexproof, or simply enjoy some sophisticated face-smashing with an exquisite selection of goblins, phoenixes and whatever other fun creatures red mana can cast. Pro Tip: Play Robber of the Rich and nobody can deny that you're the good guy!

  • g is your color of choice if you think that everything that costs 3 or less only exists to help you cast your incredible top end, be it creatures or the probably strongest suit of planeswalkers at mana value 5. Go big with r, go wide with w, go full value with u or make sure your opponent will fear your Hornet Queen even in the graveyard with b.

So much for a general overview on the ideas behind the colors - be assured though that there's much more to discover between buildarounds like Fires of Invention, cards that require high levels of cohesion like The Mirari Conjecture and "the more colors, the better" cards like Kenrith, the Returned King.
