Before the main draft, everyone receives a "Commander Pack". Each player gets to choose between a two or three color commander. Once you choose your commander, all picks during the draft must conform to the commanders color identity. The less players you have, the more choices you get in your Commander Pack. During the main draft, if you receive a pack and none of the cards are in your commanders identity, you pick one, place it in the "denial zone", and receive a denial token. At the end of the draft, each player cashes in their denial tokens for a pick from the "denial pile" that works with their commander.

The cube also has the mono colored commanders (Abu Jafar, Uncle Istvaan, etc.) in the main draft. If you pull one of those in your draft packs, you can build a mono colored deck.

Drafting the Ring of Ma'Ruf and casting it gives you access to the "Box of Ma'Ruf" which has 41 of the most powerful cards from across all the colors. The card you choose from the "BoM" does NOT have to conform to your commanders color identity. If you have the ability to cast it, you can choose it and play it. What is in the box remains a mystery until you cast the ring!

Once drafting is complete, players break into groups for multi-player games.
