Design Philosophy

Cubes often feel like one of the MTGO cubes (Vintage, Legacy, Modern) or the arena cube. These goodstuff cubes are fun (I have one), and let drafters pick from a selection of cards they may be familiar with from competitive constructed formats.

The downside to this is that when players draft a new cube, they're often drafting a subtle remix of something they've done before.

This cube aims to provide a novel synergy-based drafting experience. This is accomplished in two ways:

  1. Synergy in cube can be difficult because synergestic cards are often too weak on their own. By having the whole cube be artifact-themed, the backbone of our cube is artifact synergy cards that would be too weak by themselves.
  2. Including cards from Commander and Universes Beyond sets. Many of these cards did not shine in commander and most players have never drafted with them. Cards like:

Removal

The most powerful cards in this cube are artifacts. Consequently, artifact removal is frequent, probably main-deckable, and low-cost.

There is a tension between artifact removal and non-artifact creature removal in the cube. Deckbuilding involves an additional dimension of balancing removal types.
