Inspired by https://pauperjumpstart.com/ I’d like to try and make a Jumpstart cube that recreates what it was like to play casual Magic in the very early days ie. they don’t have to be all the powerful cards.
Goals:
Recreate the experience of playing casual magic in the early years. The kind of games you would have had at school with friends during lunch. ie. Non-tournament
This is Old School 96. In addition to ABU, Arabian Nights, Antiquities, Legends, The Dark and Fallen Empires I'm going to include: Ice Age, Alliances and Mirage. However, I want the bulk of the cards to be be from Revised, I will only draw from the other sets were it helps the theme.
Power 9 isn’t included. Most players wouldn’t have owned power nine back in the day.
I'm not too worried about restricting the number or rares as I would rather get the balance between decks right. Some rares from ABU were really good, while others were really bad.
It’s ok if some decks don’t fit well together, but am looking for synergies when possible.
Mana fixing: In the list I've included Jumpstart lands in each pack, but what I've done IRL is just have a pack of Dual land proxies and let each person choose 1 for each pack.
Multiple of the same card is allowed in order to try and balance power for some themes.
I'm starting with 2 decks per colour as I'm very new to this and need to make a start somewhere and then look for feedback:) The end goal would be to get this to around an 18-20 pack set
