The Aughts cube was inspired by my experience playing many games with the 2002 world-champ decks and looking at lists from TSP/RAV standard. I also wanted a cube where Genesis would be powerful.
I chose to start the cube at Invasion because in a lot of ways invasion block was the start of modern design: split cards and kicker were both first introduced, and multicolor as a theme was first explored in a manner comparable to the way that it's used in sets today. The choice to cut off the cube at 10th was also very intentional. 10th edition was the last set before Planeswalkers were introduced to the game and followed up the time-spiral block, which was thematically all about the future and the past of Magic.
Some cards that fit in the time have been cut for balancing reasons (Opposition and Jitte) and I've added some cards (enemy fetch-lands and Ash Barrens) to make mana for better.
