This is a lore-based Ravnica Cube, centering around the plane of Ravnica and its ten guilds. Most of the cards are drawn from one of the eight proper Ravnica sets (Ravnica: City of Guilds, Guildpact, Dissension, Return to Ravnica, Gatecrash, Dragon's Maze, Guilds of Ravnica, and Ravnica Allegiance); the remainder are taken from War of the Spark and Murders at Karlov Manor (which both take place on Ravnica with Ravnican characters, even if they are not a Ravnica set per se in terms of focusing on planeswalkers and mystery motifs rather than the guilds) and from other sets such as core and Commander sets, where those sets used the characters or plane of Ravnica.

I have some very specific criteria for inclusion, both for cards and for editions used:

  • All cards must originally come from a Ravnica-based set or subset (as mentioned above), or come from another set but be clearly Ravnica-based;
  • All editions of cards used must be in the current frame (the post-Dominaria version of the M15 frame, including legendary crown and flavor text divider bar), and be part of a Ravnica-based set;
  • If the card appears in both Ravnica-based and non-Ravnica-based editions (i.e., Pithing Needle), the art and flavor text used must belong to the Ravnica version;
  • All cards using a guild mechanic or in a guild color combination must have that guild's watermark (this includes split cards; if they have spells from two guilds, a la the DGM fuse cards, each half should have its proper watermark).

If a card doesn't exist in the appropriate frame/is missing the appropriate watermark, and the card is common or uncommon, I may make a proxy of it in the correct frame. If it comes from a Ravnica set, it will receive the appropriate set symbol; if not, it will receive the appropriate Guild Kit set symbol if it's clearly a guild card, and a Ravnica Remastered set symbol if it's not. I've elected not to make rare or mythic proxies for this cube, as I can't duplicate the holofoil and it won't look right without that.

Another idiosyncracy of this cube: the only keyword mechanics are evergreen/deciduous mechanics and guild mechanics. Each guild (except for one) has three mechanics, that go as follows:

  • Selesnya: Convoke, populate, myriad;
  • Azorius: Detain, addendum, investigate;
  • Dimir: Transmute, cipher, surveil;
  • Rakdos: Hellbent, unleash, spectacle;
  • Gruul: Bloodthirst, bloodrush, riot;
  • Orzhov: Extort and afterlife;
  • Boros: Battalion, mentor, shield counters;
  • Izzet: Replicate, overload, jump-start;
  • Simic: Graft, evolve, adapt;
  • Golgari: Dredge, scavenge, undergrowth.

This does mean that I've modified the occasional card to de-keyword it, such as Battle Screech no longer having flashback.

A few other related tidbits:

  • Myriad as a Selesnya mechanic is due to the GRN/RNA/WAR block reusing Convoke, giving the guild only two mechanics total (thankfully CLU supplied several myriad cards for it, with watermarks even!, and it's a mechanic that works really well with the token-based guild anyway).
  • Investigate as an Azorius mechanic replaces the lackluster forecast mechanic, and allows for several of the new MKM/CLU cards, including the new Lavinia; it also seemed flavorful, given the Azorius's role in law and order.
  • I'm debating switching out Dimir's transmute or cipher mechanics (both of which have like one card) with the new disguise mechanic from MKM, which seems entirely up their alley.
  • I don't have a third Orzhov mechanic, as haunt is kind of terrible but I'm not sure what other Orzhov cards there are with a third mechanic that would fit. The closest I've seen on white and/or black cards are exalted and exploit, either of which could work well, but both are on cards that are explicitly Dimir and Golgari respectively.
  • Shield counters as a Boros mechanic replaces the lackluster radiance mechanic and comes from a CLU card, though I'm also debating replacing it with suspect from MKM which also seems flavorful.
  • I'm debating switching out Simic's graft with the proliferate mechanic from WAR, which seems more powerful and also perhaps a little more flavorful. Just realized that all of the proliferate cards from WAR that I'd want to use are explicitly Izzet or Selesnya, so no Simic mechanic, woe.

Size: 640 cards

Makeup:

  • 60 of each mono-color (300 total);
  • 25 of each guild (250 total);
  • 1 of each shard (5 total, all split cards);
  • 5 five-color cards;
  • 22 artifacts;
  • 58 lands.

In addition, there are several cycles for each guild:

  • At least one guildmage for each guild;
  • Signets and lockets for each guild;
  • The full cycle of RTR Charms;
  • Four legendary creatures and/or planeswalkers for each guild;
  • Two copies of each shockland and two of each guildgate.

The draft setup is similar to Ravnica Remastered, with one slot per pack dedicated to fixing (so a shockland, a guildgate, or Chromatic Lantern).
