Welcome to the 1/1 cube where all the creatures have a 1/1 stat line! Prepare to have your card evaluation warped in this a medium-powered, synergy-driven format where combat is a little different.
General guidance: The set is designed to be heavier on combo and synergy than a normal set and seems to play out a bit slower although aggro strategies can certainly shine. There are several land cycles for fixing so splashing is very viable.
Note: Mono-colored / typal strategies won't always come together but can form a strong pocket of synergy despite that!
Without any more ado - the fifteen supported archetypes (with a few ideas for splashes):
Standard White Weenie aggro featuring soldier tribal. Get the opponents dead quick.
Add and/or equipment to turn up the heat a little bit.
Out-value your opponents using standard blue control while chipping in in the air.
Add for more hard removal and slide into a rogues (Likeness Looter) or artifact theme.
Add for a storm-ier approach featuring Brain Freeze.
Use zombie tribal to push damage while holding up strong removal or lean into an aristocrats theme, using them as food. Looking at you, Jadar.
Standard red aggro featuring goblin tribal. Get the opponent dead by attacking with cheap threats and back it up with burn.
Add for some powerful equipment and turn any of your little guys into threats.
Add to bring in Munitions Expert and make use of black sacrifice effects to turn your goblins - especially Tuktuk the Explorer into fuel.
Make mana, use lots of mana, swarm the opponent with elves. Sorry there's no Craterhoof here, but there are plenty of other ways to sink mana to buff your board.
Add to put that mana to good use on March of the Multitudes.
Add to do similarly with Devil's Play.
Control the game while accruing value by Blinking your creatures.
Add for powerful ETB effects featuring tokens like Trostani's Summoner or Vital Splicer!
Use your blue and black control cards to slow down the game and grind your opponents to dust with potent value engines.
Add for access to white value engines like Hidden Stockpile and equipment.
Go for sacrifice value or go full combo and kill the opponents with just aristocrats triggers.
Add for some extra sacrifice fodder from Hidden Stockpile.
Ramp while dealing damage with things like Exploding Borders so you can play any card in the cube!
Add for some elementals like Animar, Soul of Elements and Risen Reef or storm off with Song of Creation.
Add for graveyard and land synergy with things like Lord Windgrace.
Straightforward, make a bunch of creatures that aren't 1/1s to overrun the opponent.
Aggro opponents out with cheap threats, powerful equipment, and artifact synergy.
Add for silly things like Thopter Foundry and Thopter Spy Network.
Sacrifice creatures for morbid trigger value. Leverage self-mill and black removal like Murderous Cut advance your gameplan. Also features a minor squirrel theme.
Add to lean into the aristocrats theme with something like Blood Aspirant.
Pump up your creatures to outclass the opponent in combat. Accrue massive value with cards like Cold-Eyed Selkie.
Add for some powerhouses like Luminarch Aspirant or be rude to your opponents by pumping Esper Sentinel.
Play spells-matter cards and use cheap cantrips with burn and bounce to tempo the opponent out. Take the all-in storm approach and lean into artifacts then close the game with something like Aetherflux Reservoir.
Add for some Jeskai Ascendancy shenanigans.
Add for a more control-slanted theme leveraging the black removal.
Aggro opponents out with cheap creatures with equipment buffs.
Add or
to slow the game down and leverage some artifact synergies.
Lots of other sweet combos in the cube that I haven't explicitly called out. See if you can find them!
