We are finally get some multicolor cards for the other colors. We are just going to add them. The cube is already really tight and offers very little variance.
This will help fill out the guilds, while not really affecting cube density.
More dice rolling, finally maybe this deck can get off the ground.
Also, I am already worried that Centaur of Attention may be too good, so it is watched listed already, but green really needs a finisher that can close the game.
Here again getting rid of duplicate cards, and a confusing card in the case of Fire Penguin... honestly, it creates more questions Rules Lawyer...
Also, again we are leaning into more robots as a secondary theme.
Here we get to mostly just make some upgrades in cards that just play better, and push us slightly more towards black border magic????
We get more dice rolling, a little more recursion and we get to cut some duplicate cards.
A couple of really nice things happen here.
We can lean into dice rolling a little more.
We can cut a couple of very cryptic command, which can be very difficult for decks to cast in this meta.
Just a few notes about this update. We are banning Rules Lawyer for both power and complexity... Honestly, the card could be in Vintage Cube...
I am trying to trim down the "outside the game" cards as they don't always play well. I am also trying to get closer to singleton, so you will see some of our redundancy cards getting trimmed as well (Oddly Uneven and AWOL) are good examples of this.
Charm School is also out because sometimes it just hoses people.
A lot of changes are coming to this cube. However, I thought we would start with the easiest. It is high time we upgraded the mana base in the cube. I am cutting the Tri-lands for the gates/thriving cycle.
These lands are more draft relevant, and still provide flexible fixing.
Next, Wizards has outmoded all gates and tap lands, it is time we followed suit. The Dominaria lands have land types which is sweet, and the taplands from Streets of New Capenna and Strixhaven have card draw/filtering upside.
I often get the question, about why not upgrade the lands to something nicer, like shocks or pain lands. The fact is, I don't want a fast environment. At most, I could see going to temples. I want something much more akin to retail limited. As there are only 4 unsets in the history of magic, we have to be very careful of power outliers. For me, that applies to the land base as well. Obviously, you can run whatever lands you like.
I am so excited to have new un-cards to look at. Let’s get started.
*Apparently Cube Cobra has not added the spoiled un-cards to it's database. You can see them here: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/articles/unfinity-spoilers-november-29-eternal-legal-cards
What about:
You see, the thing is new players get pummeled by the card because they can’t think of enough cards to take advantage of it. As a result, they pass it during draft and it ends up in the hands of experienced players, who use it to smite all their opponents as they are constantly playing the best creatures in magic and artifact removal is hard to come by in this environment. Experienced players don’t have a bad limited 1 drop, they have a Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer or Phyrexian Dreadnought
I am making it official: Killer Cosplay is banned for power.
Unfinity! Apparently we don't have to wait 10 years for the next un-set. Wizards will release Un-finity next year in Quarter 2 (That's April 1st - June 30th) for non business folks.
Set in space, it will have more full-art basics that we know and love, and a reprint of shocks lands.
I am both wildly excited, and nervous if I am being honest. The cube is based heavily in Unstable as UnGlued and Unhinged are not the best draft formats. Therefore, if Augment, Contraptions, and other unique set mechanics from Unstable don't return (and I imagine at least 1 won't), then we will have to make some hard choices.
Still, it is very exciting, and I hope Wizards brings us some super cool new stuff, in particular, some things to help the dice deck which fills more like a "fun trap" rather than a real deck.
I was recently asked if this cube really was just 379 cards (apparently its an odd number both literally and figuratively), and it was. I could not find another low power, 5 color land other than what I had. However, because I don't draft/update this cube often. I had not thought about the mana base... Hello, Shimmerdrift Vale, you sexy underrated common.
We have an un-cube draft coming up, and I am just doing some house keeping. This is the last remnants of the donkey deck that has been cut out.
