Testing out some fun stuff and also proxying some cards I shoulda had in a long time ago
I’ve wanted to try these for a while and finally got the proxies for them.
Wanting to keep color balance, I cut 2 cards of each color that have either underperformed in play or not been picked highly. I am sad to see some of these go so I’m sure they’ll come back at some point after a bit more playtesting, but I’m eager to see how this increase in fixing affects the draft.
I've been enjoying the process of watching and waiting to see what stands out when it comes to vintage cube rather than having to keep up with all the spoilers to decide what I want to test.
At this point there's plenty of cuts I'm willing to make so I get to scour other peoples' lists to see what looks fun to replace them with
I'm trying to stay within budget a little so not shelling out for any $10+ cards at the moment, but a few I know I want in the future are Echo of Aeons, Displacer Kitten, Enlightened Tutor, Broadside Bombardiers, etc. so those may be coming shortly.
I think a problem I will soon be facing is having way too many white 2's. Before this update I already have 14, and this update adds 3 to that! At some point I'll have to start cutting some, hopefully for better 1's or some more noncreature spells.
I'm happy to be in a position where I'm playtesting the cube more regularly so I feel much more confident that any of these swaps I'm making can be reversed without much pain. That said, I don't think I'll be missing any of the cards getting cut.
Am I crazy for cutting some of these that are way better than I think? Am I adding some stinkers that don't belong in a cube like this? I don't know, you tell me. I promise my feelings won't be hurt if you tell me Shorikai is too slow, but I may not listen to you either
Been awhile since I last updated this cube, mostly because I don't want to make any new proxies and I don't want to buy non-blinged versions of cards that I will inevitably swap out for blinged versions later.
Comet's a weird-looking card to me but people say it's absurdly powerful so I'm down to try it. Boros needs the help anyway
Not sure what I was thinking with Vivien on the Hunt, 6-drop that makes a 4/4 every turn is way worse than a 5-drop that makes a 3/3 every turn. New Nissa is kind of insane in comparison, all her abilities are incredibly relevant and she can come down as early as turn 5 to start making scaling tokens or on turn 7 as a craterhoof. Super solid card.
Other cards I'm waiting to get my hands on before adding to the cube: Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer, Atraxa, Grand Unifier, Retrofitter Foundry, Sheoldred, the Apocalypse
