Played some good Dream State games on top of an unbalanced Ancient Times. Very positive experience.
Take aways / swaps :
Noetic Scales is great is a very specific brew, but otherwise, and more often than not, it kinda slows things down.
Expedited Inheritance is... bonkers. I wish it wasn't a 'may' but I think I love it.
If Keldon Twilight starts on the board... then it's like super hard to start building a creature base. Not the challenge I want in a dream.
Ley Line is stupid and weak, but it's kind and fun.
A good dream
Kinda want folks to plays spells actually
This was a tough call because I love the art on Aether Storm, and I like the tension it sets up in the first few turns. But... once some one pops it, it's gone...and I kinda want the Dreams to stick around.
after drafting and
after players have matched up,
but before each game begins,
2 cards are revealed from the Dream States
deck.
The game begins with these cards in play.
These Dream States
, typically artifacts or enchantments, are not considered owned by either player.
There is a great debate in the marble columns of discord, upon whether these Dream States
should be targetable and otherwise interact-able by the players.
Would it be nice to have a chance to sideboard before knowing the 2 emblem-esk Dream States
? Or should we (the players) simply just be surprised?
Should the winner of a game, pick a Dream State
and travel with it to their next battle? Perhaps collecting dreams, in preparation for the final battle with death?
Took a while to cut this list down, what with all the super weird old school options. I leaned away from effects that lock down the board or slow down stuff (ie winter orb stuff), in favor of things that will create huge blow-outs (ie Furnace of Rath).
I laid out a bunch of 'test hands', and there are some amazing things that can happen.
