Introduction


Up to 8 players draft a more powerful and condensed version of Dominaria (2018) limited. Pack design imitates Dominaria boosters but adds two timeshifted slots from throughout magic's history.

A Classic Set, Remade (Design Goals)


• 💎 Embellish a piece of magic's booster history.
--> keep as much of the original format intact while creating a more modern, deep and varied limited environment

• ⚖️ Balance trumps pure nostalgia.
--> rebalance card distribution, rarity and, in some cases, oracle text
--> nerf overpowered bombs and cut unplayable draft-chaff
--> balance the mana curve of each color and further support archetype synergies to make any color-combination fun and playable.

• 🃏 Make flavorful additions from other releases that fit the set's themes, art and mechanics.
--> Timeshifted or Bonus-Sheet type of inserts that create extra variance and surprise veteran drafters.

• 💪🏼 Gameplay feels more like block constructed decks rather than the original booster-draft format as decks are generally more powerful.
--> Commons are still valuable, decks are just more synergistic and reliable (fixing, mana curve)

• 🤝🏼 Drastic reworks are optional to also include players looking for a more traditional set-cube experience.

Booster Setup


Each player receives 3 packs of 15 cards, containing:
Pack 1
8C, 3U, 2R, 2T

Commons have two copies. Uncommon, rare, mythic and timeshifted cards are singleton.

Two timeshifted cards in each booster support the 10 archetypes while providing extra variance to the format.
They can be seen separate from the rest of the cube by going to menu, then Filter and pasting the following and hitting Apply filter: rarity:special

Game-winning mythics like Karn or Teferi are inserted seperately (denoted as 'mythics') as to ensure that a single player can't have too many in their cardpool.
This way, especially in sealed, some boosters aren't greatly more powerful than others.

Remastering


I offer an optional “remastered”, rebalanced version of this cube that plays more like modern draft sets, featuring more complex and powerful commons and uncommons.
I slightly adjusted the mana cost, stats and/or abilities of most cards to either nerf bombs or boost “draft chaff”.

How to prepare the custom boosters:


  • When you have all required cards, sort them by rarity and shuffle each rarity pile.
  • Start with the mythics: lay them out next to one another, like pile shuffling with 24 piles. You should have 8 cards in piles.
  • Lay the other rares out into piles until you have 24 single-card piles.
  • Now put a common over each mythic (first 8) and a rare over each normal rare.
  • Put another rare over each pile. You should have 24 3-card piles.
  • Hard parts done. Now put an uncommon on every pile one for one until all are gone.
  • Lastly, put all commons the same way. You should have 21 15-card boosters.
  • Draft with 4-8 players or play sealed with up to 4 players.
